Shivam School of Dance

Shivam School of Dance places great importance on the Guru-Shishya relationship, acknowledging that imparting knowledge is physical, emotional, and spiritual. The sacredness of this relationship is critical to both the growth of school students and teachers.

The Guru Shishya Parampara ('teacher- student tradition') is a relationship/bond between students and teachers of Indian classical music and dance. The Guru Shishya Parampara can also mean one's musical lineage, which can be traced through previous generations of one's teachers, much like a family tree.

This relationship, based on the genuineness of the guru and the respect, commitment, devotion, and deference of the student, is the best way for subtle or advanced knowledge to be conveyed. The student eventually masters the knowledge that the guru embodies, through knowledge passed down from gurus before.
